Information & Guidance

The National Park Service's Heritage Preservation Services (HPS) and Technical Preservation Services (TPS) programs provides a wealth of material to help homeowner's, organizations and municipalities preserve, restore and rehabilitate historic buildings.

TPS is the nation's leading provider of information and guidance on the care of historic buildings and their goal is to improve the quality of work on historic buildings by promoting long term preservation and foster both traditional and innovative techniques in their care and maintenance. Below are listed TPS's Programs:

Preservation Briefs: This series of technical guides assist owners and developers of historic buildings to recognize and resolve common preservation and repair problems. These easy to read briefs include such subjects as "Conserving Energy in Historic Buildings" to "The Repair of Historic Wood Windows". They are particularly helpful to tax incentive program applicants because they recommend methods and approaches for rehabilitation that are consistent with their historic character.
